As the nation’s first military academy, West Point prepares young men and women to become officers in the U.S. Army. Cadets attend the academy for four years, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree and a commission as a second lieutenant.

The United States Military Academy (USMA), established in 1802, is renowned for producing exceptional leaders. Situated in West Point, New York, the academy was initially founded by President Thomas Jefferson to train officers for the rapidly expanding army.

There are 12 academic departments at USMA as well as the departments of Military Instruction and Physical Education. Each department offers various majors and minors, internships, and other enrichment opportunities.

West Point’s 37 majors and 15 minor options afford cadets the opportunity to explore, discover, and develop their academic interests.
