Photos shared on social media show Bass at a U.S. Embassy reception in Accra shortly before Los Angeles evacuation orders.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass was attending a cocktail party in Ghana when the deadly Pacific Palisades wildfire first erupted, according to LA Times. In the newly unearthed photos, the 71-year-old was seen alongside foreign nationals at the US ambassador’s home in Accra.

Palisades Fire initially started 10:30 a.m. Jan. 7 in Los Angeles County. It has burned 23,713 acres after being active for a week. A crew of 5,104 firefighters has been working on site and they managed to contain 18% of the fire by Tuesday evening. The blaze's cause remains under investigation.

Before one of the most destructive fires in California history swept through, the Pacific Palisades neighborhood on Los Angeles' west side was filled with expensive homes fronted by green, well-tended landscaping and popular boutiques and cafes.
