The wet weather will bring relief to Southern California after a prolonged period of dryness, but there’s concern that any bursts of heavy rainfall could cause flooding.

There is a 10% to 20% chance of flash flooding and landslides in some recently burned areas of Los Angeles County, forecasters say, including for the Palisades and Eaton fires.

The fires are still not fully contained and have killed 28 people and damaged or destroyed nearly 16,000 structures.

Rainfall forecasted for this weekend could present new dangers for areas already left devastated by recent wildfires across the Los Angeles region. With rain expected to arrive by Sunday, the California Office of Emergency Services is warning of increased risks of flooding,
