TAMPA, Fla. — No one expected Michigan football to come into Raymond James Stadium and upset the vaunted Alabama Crimson Tide. However, the Wolverines took the Jan. 1 game against Alabama and did so again on Dec. 31 to close the calendar year.

Alabama football ends its season for the second consecutive year with a loss to Michigan. The Wolverines turned Alabama’s disaster-filled first quarter into a 19-13 victory over the Crimson Tide on Tuesday at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa in the ReliaQuest Bowl.

It has been a wild season for Alabama football, the first under new coach Kalen DeBoer, a year that saw the team reach a high with a Week 4 upset win over Georgia that moved them to 4-0. Of course, the Crimson Tide went 5-3 from there, and a difficult loss at Oklahoma effectively doused their hopes at earning a spot in the College Football Playoff.

DeBoer and the Tide just missed out on the College Football Playoff, and closed out the year with a bummer of a loss to Michigan in the ReliaQuest Bowl. In the meantime, DeBoer has been trying to stem losses to the transfer portal while also trying to bring in his own transfers and build out his recruiting classes.
