WASHINGTON—Brendan Carr expressed gratitude and eagerness to move forward on a range of issues in a statement Jan. 20 upon President Donald Trump’s order naming him Federal Communications Chairman.

Donald Trump has officially appointed Brendan Carr as the new chairman of the FCC. Carr’s appointment does not require Senate confirmation because he is already a sitting commissioner. Trump first mentioned Carr’s name as a possibility for FCC chairman back in November 2024, shortly after the election.

Those appointments include Scott Delacourt, who was named chief of staff for the FCC and Greg Watson, chief of staff for the Office of Chairman Carr. In addition to the 11 people named in the Jan. 21 announcement, further appointments are expected FCC said.
