The San Diego Padres are closing in on a deal with free agent outfielder/first baseman Connor Joe, according to multiple reports on Friday.

The Padres were reportedly busy on Friday addressing their lack of depth in left field. San Diego and outfielder/first baseman Connor Joe are near an agreement on a contract, a source told MLB.com’s AJ Cassavell.

“We approved John Seidler to be the control person of the San Diego Padres once he becomes the trustee of the Seidler trust,” commissioner Rob Manfred said Thursday from the MLB owners meetings. “We’re looking forward to continued stewardship of the Padres by a member of the Seidler family, that is really non-controversial.”
