NEW YORK — Jesse Winker and the Mets have agreed to a one-year contract, a person familiar with the deal told The Associated Press on Thursday, perhaps a signal the team doesn’t expect to re-sign slugger Pete Alonso. The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the agreement was subject to a successful physical.

The New York Mets and free-agent outfielder Jesse Winker have reached an agreement to reunite. Winker will make $7.5 million with the chance to reach $9 million with bonuses, according to the New York Post.

With spring training a month away, reports indicate the New York Mets want slugging first baseman Pete Alonso to agree to a new contract or they will move on.
