Metro Detroit has no shortage of events to commemorate Black History Month, with a range of lectures, performances, classes and more to learn about and celebrate Black culture.

Detroit’s dazzling musical history will be brought into focus this weekend at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History.

The River Road African American Museum in the historic district of Donaldsonville celebrates three decades of preserving history.

From hip-hop to soul food to HBCUs, these events celebrate Black culture and excellence in Phoenix, Chandler, Scottsdale and Tempe all month long.

Over the next four weeks, the D.C. area comes alive with events highlighting contributions made by the Black community, lionizing heroes like Frederick Douglass and William Still; shining a spotlight on histories that don’t always appear in schoolbooks;

Feb. events include the 30th annual Langston Hughes Community Poetry reading, and a free PPAC program celebrating musician and activist Randall Ashe.
