The cold spell will be short-lived, as South Florida begins a gradual warm-up on Saturday. Winds will shift from the northeast to the east, allowing a warmer airmass to move into the area. By Saturday night, low temperatures will feel much more comfortable compared to tonight's sharp chill.

With temperatures dropping below 50 degrees in parts of South Florida starting Thursday night, local governments are activating their cold weather emergency plans.

The morning got off to a cloudy start with a few isolated sprinkles and drizzle around. It will be cool and breezy throughout the day as highs will only be in the upper 50s & low 60s in the afternoon under partly sunny skies. The average high in Miami is 76 degrees. The chance of rain is low, but a stray shower will be possible.
