U.S. civil rights groups are warning that an executive order signed by President Donald Trump on Monday lays the groundwork for reinstatement of a ban on travelers from predominantly Muslim or Arab countries.

Shaheen called the order "alarming," saying that the people who are going to pay the steepest price are those still living in dangerous, war-torn countries. She's asking Trump to reconsider his decision.

Refugees who had been approved to travel to the US before a January 27 deadline suspending America’s refugee resettlement programme have had their travel plans cancelled by the Trump administration. Thousands of refugees are now stranded at various locations around the globe.
