A man in distress was holding a gun to his head in the moments before Charlotte Mecklenburg Police shot him to death outside Coyote Joe’s nightclub Saturday, police radio traffic reveals.

A man armed with a gun was shot and killed by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police outside Coyote Joe's in west Charlotte late Saturday, investigators said.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is investigating a shooting involving off-duty officers late Saturday night, and a man died on the scene. The shooting happened on Wilkinson Boulevard at the Coyote Joe’s nightclub just a few minutes from Charlotte-Douglas International Airport.
