Faizan Zaki’s first appearance at the Scripps National Spelling Bee was in 2019, when he tied for 370th place. He returned again in 2023 and 2024, where he finished second.

The spelling bee is open to any student younger than 15, who hasn't passed the eighth grade yet. Children as young as 6-years-old have competed in the iconic event.
