The Boxing Day Test between India and Australia has set new records at the MCG, with over 2,99,329 fans attending the first three days.

The iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) created history during the fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in 2024, shattering an all-time attendance record for a Test match in Australia. Over five days, 350,700 spectators visited the venue, exceeding the previous record of 350,534 set in 1937.

The fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Series is set for a titanic finish after Australia's tail ensured India would need to chase more than 300 runs on the final day to win.

Boxing Day, celebrated the day after Christmas, historically involved giving gifts to workers and the less fortunate in England. The tradition of a Boxing Day Test at the MCG began in 1950, becoming an integral part of Australia’s cricketing calendar.

Fans have charged to the MCG for the final day of the Boxing Day Test, making the overall attendance an Australian record. Before lunch on Day 5, the crowd was recorded at 51,371 (with more people coming through), making the total attendance for the Test 350,700.
