The £150m plans – which now involve the pedestrianisation of Oxford Circus - will now progress to detailed solutions on how best to remove or divert a number of bus routes from Oxford Street.

On Tuesday, Khan said he was moving forward with the pedestrianisation of Oxford Street with detailed proposals to be published later this year.

These more detailed proposals – covering almost a mile of Oxford Street - will be published later this year. It may take until 2027 or later before the changes are introduced.
