The rating board for Japanese games, CERO, has forced Assassin's Creed Shadows to remove its dismemberment setting in the Japanese release.

The Japanese player base has been quite frustrated with Assassin's Creed Shadows, and a recent change is only set to sour things further.

Ubisoft reveals that Assassin's Creed Shadows is being censored in Japan after CERO determined certain aspects of the game need to be adjusted.

The Japanese version of Assassin's Creed Shadows has been revised in order to be compliant with the CERO rating board. According to multiple reports, the ability to amputate or dismember enemies has been removed entirely.

It picks up the baton from the likes of Odyssey and Valhalla, offering an expansive open-world Assassin's Creed game experience that will scratch plenty of itches for fans of the series’ plus-sized adventures - but also has plenty to offer those who preferred the earlier games’ stealth focus.

Japan's rating board, CERO, confirmed that whilst players in Europe and North America will be able to toggle amputation on/off, for Japanese players "the option to switch amputation on/off from the game settings has been removed" and "amputating the neck and limbs of enemies during gameplay is now always impossible."

The video game ratings board for Japan, CERO, has announced a censored version of Assassin's Creed Shadows will be released in the country. The PS5 title will come with a CERO Z rating, meaning it can't be sold to anyone under the age of 18.
