INDIANAPOLIS — Ricky Council IV shook free for a driving dunk, cutting what had been a double-digit Pacers lead to six. But then Myles Turner took a methodical bounce pass and knocked down the elbow jumper before Ben Sheppard buried a corner 3-point shot.

The Philadelphia 76ers entered the NBA season ready to rock following a great offseason. They landed star forward Paul George to pair with Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey.

“While the foot sprain has healed, Embiid experienced an increase in swelling in his left knee following the workout,” the Sixers said in a statement. “After consulting with team medical staff and external doctors, Embiid will receive treatment in the coming days to address the swelling.”

It’s the latest setback for Embiid, the often brilliant and frequently injured star whose games played total will remain stuck on 13 this unlucky season as the team heads for three challenging road games. It comes with the Sixers having lost four straight games and seven of nine ahead of a trip to play three teams in playoff position.
