The Hays County Health Department said a Gaines County resident visited San Marcos, where Texas State is located, on Feb. 14. That individual has since tested positive for measles.
Texas faces an increasingly severe measles outbreak with over 130 cases and one child fatality amid declining vaccination rates.
A lack of reimbursements since late January has forced local refugee service providers to furlough or lay off staff and cease services to refugees.
The Texas Department of State Health Services is trying to set the record straight about Mexia ISD, saying the school district incorrectly reported that it had a measles case and has no confirmed case of rubella.
Catholic Charities Fort Worth, a nonprofit organization that serves as Texas’ refugee resettlement office, has sued the Trump administration, claiming the federal government has withheld more than $36 million in grants, leading its partners to lay off workers and close some offices.
"There have been no recent cases of Rubella in that area and also no cases of measles," said a spokesperson for state health leaders.
