University of San Diego economist Alan Gin said, "Without the federal government, we'd really be the size of Santa Barbara, Ventura, Oxnard region. We'd be primarily a tourism-fueled economy." Federal workers deliver mail, maintain national parks, secure federal prisons and prosecute federal crimes. Many now worry about their future employment.
