Minneapolis City Council approves landmark police reform deal with DOJ five years after George Floyd's death aiming for systemic change.

The Minneapolis Police Federation is seeking a voice in the latest plan for court-ordered reforms of the police department. The union on Friday filed a motion to intervene in the proposed federal consent decree.

The federal consent decree formalizes many policies that the police department put in place when the world’s attention was on Minneapolis after George Floyd’s murder in 2020 that are also in the settlement with the Minnesota Department of Human Rights.

(KNSI) — The University of Minnesota has given the group Communities United Against Police Brutality the Outstanding Community Service Award. The U’s website says the award winners “represent the University’s highest honors for community-engaged scholarship and community service.”

Advocates welcome the agreement, a result of investigations after the murder of George Floyd. But Trump has a record of resisting such measures.
