An Amtrak train carrying 164 passengers from New Orleans collided with a vehicle Thursday afternoon in Alabama. The train was headed to New York City when it hit a vehicle obstructing the tracks in Vance, according to Amtrak.
Despite what you might have heard, Mardi Gras didn't get its start in New Orleans. Mardi Gras actually began in Mobile, Alabama – a port city with close proximity to the Gulf of Mexico, located about 140 miles east of the Big Easy.
Officials with Amtrak say 164 were on board and that there are no reported injuries to passengers or crew at this time.
