At least 12 passengers died on Wednesday evening in North Maharashtra’s Jalgaon district when they tried to jump down from the Pushpak Express. The people on board panicked due to a rumour about a fire in the train and jumped down,

Railway officials clarified that the Pushpak Express had stopped for about 20 minutes, giving passengers ample time to move to safety. However, many were unaware of the danger until it was too late.

Mumbai: The tragic train accident near Pachora in the Bhusaval division of Central Railway on Wednesday, which claimed the lives of 13 passengers, has highlighted the need for public address systems in long-distance trains. Transport experts and passenger activists believe that such a system could have prevented or minimized the tragedy.

The injured individuals have been admitted to the Civil Hospital Jalgaon and are undergoing treatment. Earlier, the Railway Ministry announced ex-gratia of Rs 1.5 lakh each for the kin of the deceased in the Jalgaon train accident.
