Lionel Messi has no shortage of motivation in 2025. His Inter Miami CF won the Supporters' Shield last season, setting an MLS single-season record for points in the process, before being humbly knocked out of the playoffs in Round 1.
"I'm very happy for him," first-year Inter Miami coach Javier Mascherano said. "I'm very happy because of the season that he played. ... For him it was very, very special and very important to win this trophy. He came here to win this trophy."
Finally, there was the coupe de Messi on this title game. He played a ball off his chest, and to his left foot, which popped a pass over the Vancouver defense in stoppage time. It was Allende sent in alone on goal this time. His goal in the 96th minute started the celebration.
Messi's wife, Antonela Roccuzzo, and their three children, Thiago, Mateo, and Ciro, appear to enjoy life in Miami. Their three children play football and train with the respective age groups at the Inter Miami youth academy.
