Many Chicago restaurants suffered during the pandemic. A lawsuit filed recently accused the Gold Coast restaurant Maple & Ash of misusing federal pandemic funds, which the restaurant denies.

The document alleges that more than $7.6 million in PPP loans — $3.9 million for Maple & Ash’s Chicago location and $3.7 million for the Scottsdale restaurant — were misappropriated.

"Maple Manager wants to usurp the corporate opportunities belonging to (Maple & Ash) and the investors." The lawsuit states Maple & Ash's revenue in 2021 was more than $29 million.
