The Western Hills Mall has seen its share of shootings over the years. The most recent one was Sunday night at the food court. Darin Hill, an innocent bystander, died. "How can you tell somebody has a gun or what their intentions are?

WBRC spoke exclusively with a witness who says she is thankful to be alive after being in the food court at the mall when a group of people started shooting.

The shooting happened in the food court at about 5 p.m., said Henry Irby, spokesman for the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

An innocent bystander was shot and killed and another man was injured when an argument escalated between two groups at an Alabama mall food court, cops said.
