MSNBC President Rashida Jones stepped down Tuesday after four years running the progressive political news network, as parent company Comcast Corp. prepares to spin off several of its cable-TV assets.

Rashida Jones is stepping down as president of MSNBC and one of her top lieutenants, Rebecca Kutler, is taking over as interim network president.

That creativity manifested itself at MSNBC, as Jones expanded “Morning Joe” by an hour and created a sort of “pop-up” program known internally as “The Avengers” that has Maddow lead a dais of MSNBC opinion hosts during moments of critical national news import.
