Lightning strikes can hit miles from storms, experts warn

Between 2006 and 2021, there were 444 lightning strike deaths in the U.S., according to the CDC. So, while the odds are slim, being struck by lightning can happen.
“When we got to the 10th hole, we noticed a storm off in the distance and lightning, and could hear thunder, stuff like that, but it seemed pretty far out,” Delia said.
