After years of being told that red wine was good for heart health, more Americans appear to be heeding warnings that even moderate alcohol consumption can be unhealthy

New Gallup poll shows only 54% of Americans drink alcohol, the lowest rate in nearly 90 years, as health concerns about moderate drinking grow nationwide.

The survey finds that 54% of U.S. adults say they drink alcoholic beverages such as liquor, wine or beer — "the lowest by one percentage point in Gallup's nearly 90-year trend," the analytics company says.
