These barn quilts so many of us see, especially driving in more rural areas are actually paintings all in perfect squares, diagonal patterns, colors, and symbols, according to Taste of Home.
As of April 2025, there were more than 400 total quilts countywide. The Barn Quilt Project was started in 2010 by Shawano photographer Jim Leuenberger, who had seen similar quilts in other states.
