President Donald Trump has called himself a “Bitcoin reserve, and issued an Ethereum blockchain. Cloud computing giants like Google or Amazon own large centralized warehouses of servers that they rent out to developers. Buterin designed Ethereum as a decentralized cloud computing network that no one entity controls.

The rift over the president’s proposed grab-bag of tokens signals a rocky political road ahead for one of the administration’s most audacious tech proposals. Underlying the issue: His administration has yet to articulate how it intends to reconcile the president’s “America First” agenda with crypto networks that are intended to be decentralized and borderless by design.

The crypto industry is getting everything it wanted under President Trump. The regulators that crypto firms have blamed for all of their problems have been gutted or made over with friendlier faces who are eager to drop lingering legal challenges.
