Multiple tornado warnings were issued around 8:30 a.m. for communities along the state line, including Mill Spring, NC, about an 82 mile drive west from Charlotte. In S.C., warnings were issued from Union, Monarch Mill and Buffalo, the National Weather Service said.

The National Weather Service issued tornado warnings for the towns of Mebane, Hillsborough, Saxapahaw, and Efland. Raleigh and Durham were under a special weather advisory.
