Subject lines allow recipients to redirect your correspondence to someone within their organization who is in a better position to help you. This is true for both emails and hard copy letters.

Send a well-written request to each person who agreed to write you a letter by email. Your email subject line should read “Request for Letter of Recommendation” or something similar.
