The New York Islanders notched their first win of 2025, beating the Boston Bruins 5-4 in overtime to snap a three-game skid after blowing a two-goal lead. Bo Horvat scored the game-winning goal on the breakaway after some brilliance by goaltender Ilya Sorokin in the extra frame:

The Islanders, seven points behind the Bruins for the Eastern Conference’s second wild-card spot, moved within six points of the surging Blue Jackets and improved to 2-2-0 on their seven-game homestand, which continues Friday night against the Flyers.

David Pastrnak scored twice, and Cole Koepke and Justin Brazeau added goals as the Bruins lost their fourth straight game.

The Islanders scored three goals in the second period and went on to a 3-1 win over the Blue Jackets on Monday.
