A slew of snowstorms have been hitting the US, but the weather hasn't come close to dropping to these record-low temperatures.

For many in Denver and eastern Colorado, the coldest low temperatures in nearly a year are on the way. The forecasted low for Denver should drop close to 7 degrees.

It's a bitter cold start to Wednesday, but we'll see a nice warm up by the afternoon. It's mostly sunny across the state with high temperatures in the low 40s close to Denver.

The sun will fully come back out Wednesday after a cold morning where temperatures started out in the low teens around metro Denver.

With Tuesday's First Alert Weather Day​, and temperatures expected to drop into the single digits Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, the City and County of Denver activated its Cold Weather Shelter plan.

Clouds will continue to clear out Tuesday night. This will aid in a rapid drop in temperatures down to the single digits, according to FOX31 Pinpoint Weather Chief Meteorologist Dave Fraser.

As the snow ends in the metro, temperatures will stay below freezing and dip into the single digits overnight.
