The Athletic reported earlier in the week that the Mavericks had a dream of pairing Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant with their current core of Anthony Davis and Kyrie Irving. SNY's Ian Begley is taking that one step further, saying the Mavs were actively engaged in talks on Wednesday, trying to make it happen.

Now that the dust has settled, it’s clear that this was one of the most chaotic trade deadlines in league history. In fact, the Dallas Mavericks were at the center of the fiasco, as they were part of possibly the most lopsided trade in the record books.

NBA trade deadline was the best in recent memory. The star power was off the charts, led of course by Luka Doncic's stunning trade to the Lakers. Doncic alone would have been enough to carry the discussion during a normal trade deadline.
