The Xbox owner kicked off 2024 by letting go of 1,900 employees after the ActiBlizz acquisition, before cutting a further 650 jobs in September. Microsoft makes layoffs across several divisions including gaming
Microsoft’s head of gaming announced last January that 1,900 staff would be laid off across Activision Blizzard, Bethesda and Xbox. At the time, Phil Spencer claimed that the decision was ultimately the result of a lack of growth in the games industry. The company announced a further 650 jobs cuts in its gaming division last September.
