The new 'Juniper' update to the Tesla Model Y has been revealed, and while it looks great, interested buyers in the U.S. are going to be left waiting a bit.

Tesla launched the long-awaited 2025 Tesla Model Y Juniper on its Chinese consumer site today. The facelifted SUV has been rumored for some time, with camouflaged models spotted testing in the wild. Styling updates are similar to what the updated Model 3 sedan received last year, with some key differences.

Model Y inventory is drying up after Tesla went on a year-end pricing tear. The EV world, meanwhile, is eying the Juniper refresh.

The updated, 2025 Tesla Model Y, also known internally at Tesla by its Juniper codename, is just around the corner. We've caught camouflaged prototypes of this vehicle being tested in the wild before, but this is the first time we've actually seen one uncovered as it's undergoing cold-weather testing.

The update is the first major revamp for the Model Y since the electric compact crossover's debut in 2019. The most noticeable change is the new styling, which features a chiseled front end with a light strip that matches the design of the Cybercab robotaxi. A light strip also replaces the separate brake lights found on the current Model Y.

Deliveries in China and other Southeast Asian countries begin in March, but U.S. availability has not been announced yet. North American deliveries are anticipated to begin this spring, which would make the Model Y Juniper a late 2025 model.

The revised Model Y is available to order in China. Apart from the return of a turn signal lever, little seems new. Tesla is likely to retain the powertrain.

Much is riding on the refreshed Model Y, slated to launch in March. The six-year-old crossover accounts for two out of every three Teslas sold.
