Bay Area residents had an opportunity on Thursday to write a final farewell message to the late President Jimmy Carter. Habitat for Humanity had two locations, in San Jose and Oakland, where people could come and write on a door and wall frame.

The nation on Thursday will say a final farewell to President Jimmy Carter, with funeral services in Washington, D.C., and many in the Bay Area also will honor him.

Jimmy Carter attended the groundbreaking for Habitat for Humanity Orange County’s first affordable housing project in 1990. Residents remember the day well.
