A water pipe Thursday night inside a wall burst inside Duke University Hospital. Several areas were flooded, including the Emergency Department. However, all patients at the time of the incident received the care they needed.

DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) — The Duke University Hospital emergency department is still closed Saturday after a water pipe broke in a wall Thursday and flooded areas of the hospital, officials said Saturday.

Patients in emergency departments who are treated by physicians with a high propensity to admit those they see into the hospital are more likely to be discharged after only a short stay, suggesting a possible unnecessary admission,

We urge members of the public to seek emergency care at other area hospitals or an urgent care center if possible.”
