The most destructive wildfires in Los Angeles history Thursday have burned more than 27,000 acres, destroyed 1,000 structures, killed five people and upended the lives of tens of thousands of people forced to flee.

Though the Palisades and Eaton fires are smaller, they rank high in structures burned. Combined, they would equal the second-most destructive California wildfire in history, with more than 9,000 structures burned, according to early Cal Fire estimates. A more detailed analysis of the total number of destroyed structures is still underway.

Following days of devastating damage from wildfires in LA, California officials are asking for help from neighboring states — and Washington firefighters are answering the call.
