The El Cerrito Plaza BART station was closed Tuesday morning due to a “major medical emergency,” according to the Bay Area Rapid Transit. A major medical emergency is typically the term the transit agency uses to describe a fatality on a BART train or at a BART station.

The El Cerrito Plaza BART station reopened hours after shutting down because of a train that fatally struck someone who went onto the tracks, a spokesperson for the transit agency said.
